A Moment to Pause, Reflect & Reconnect With Your Values
Life can get busy. Between work, relationships, responsibilities and everyday commitments, it's easy to find ourselves moving from one thing to the next without considering where our time and energy are going.
But being busy doesn't always mean we're spending our time in ways that are meaningful or fulfilling.
Taking time to reflect allows us to recognise what matters most, understand where we may be giving too much of ourselves, and make more conscious choices about how we want to live.
Inspired by Seneca's On the Shortness of Life, there's a simple idea worth considering: Life is long enough if we know how to use it.
This isn't about making every moment productive. It's about being present, protecting our energy and making space for the people, experiences and activities that align with our values.
Three Journaling Questions to Explore
Find somewhere quiet, grab a notebook and give yourself 10–15 minutes to reflect. There's no right or wrong answer. Just be curious and honest with yourself.
1. What matters most to me at this stage of my life?
Our priorities and values can change as we move through life. Consider the relationships, experiences and activities that bring you meaning, purpose and fulfilment.
Why this matters: Understanding what you value helps you recognise what deserves more of your attention.
2. Where am I currently spending my time and energy?
Think about your daily routines, work, relationships and commitments. Which leave you feeling fulfilled, and which might be taking more from you than they give?
Why this matters: Recognising where your energy goes can help you identify what needs protecting, changing or letting go.
3. What is one small change I can make to live more intentionally?
Perhaps it's creating a boundary at work, spending more time with someone important, making space for something you enjoy or giving yourself permission to rest.
Why this matters: Reflection becomes more meaningful when it helps us take action. Small, consistent changes can make a real difference over time.
Turning Reflection Into Action
Once you've finished writing, look back over your responses. Notice any recurring themes or areas where your actions may not fully reflect your values.
Choose one small action to focus on over the coming week. It doesn't need to be ambitious or life-changing. Sometimes the smallest adjustments help us create more space for what matters.
Remember, using our time wisely isn't about doing more. It's about being more intentional with what we choose to do.
